Inspired by one of my favourite countryside traditions, 'Telling the Bees', my Countrylore series celebrates the joyful traditions and rituals of country folk.
Being easily offended, bees must be told of all their keepers important life events... births, marriages and deaths, else they'll fly away and deprive the keeper of their life giving honey. A piece of wedding cake, or funeral biscuit should be placed by the hive as a make peace, an offering to include the bees in the life of the family. On the death of the beekeeper, the new keeper must tell the bees the news, formally introduce themselves and request acceptence as their new master or mistress.
A small but beautiful slip trailed cup, handmade from a biscuity Shropshire & Staffordshire stoneware clay, and glazed in a strong white glaze.
Cups will slightly vary from that shown, all gloriously unique.
